What the hell do Halloween costume stores do the rest of the year?

I know some places like Party City can manage to sell stuff all year round, but I’ve seen some stores that ONLY sell Halloween stuff and I only notice them around Halloween, then they disappear like some kind of phantom… What the hell is going on there?!

They rent off the building for the rest of the year and take it back during October.
They are probably holiday stores, selling all year around.
They rent those spaces out for Halloween after Halloween they’re gone. A lot of those stores have websites you can buy from year round and a lot of those places are being rented by costume and prop manufacturers as other ways to sell their goods other than the internet.
Party City is a party outlet store selling items for birthdays and weddings which happen year round so they’re able to stay open all year and still make money. Some people don’t celebrate Halloween and some people don’t take it as seriously as some, so keeping a “Halloween item only” store open all year long would cost more money than it would profit.
It depends on the store. Some of them lease an empty space for September/October and essentially lease all the contents to be sold from the parent company. Anything not sold at the end of the season is shipped back to the parent company. At least, that’s how Halloween Express and Spirit Superstores do it.
I think that after Halloween is over they close up the store and rent it out to whoever and when Halloween is back they reopen up the store to sell the Halloween stuff. Just the stores that only sell stuff for Halloween do this though.
